Bardstown High School volleyball head coach Darren Morris was named 2023 Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association (KVCA) Region 5 Coach of the Year in an announcement on Monday.
The KVCA, a signature affiliate partner of the American Volleyball Coaches Association, is comprised of 275 schools in 16 regions across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Bardstown High School is a part of region 5 with 19 other high schools. Annually, the KVCA hosts a Region Awards Ceremony to recognize a player and coach in each region. Morris was voted Region 5 Coach of the Year by his fellow KVCA member coaches. This is the second time Coach Morris has received this honor. In 2020, he was also named the Region 5 Coach of the Year.
“It’s humbling to have your peers vote for you on the context of how good of a job you’re doing,” said Coach Darren Morris. “I am honored to represent the fifth region with the great group of girls that I have.”
All recipients will be honored at the 2023 KHSAA State Tournament at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester during ceremonies between the semi-final matches on Saturday, November 4.
Morris was hired as the head volleyball coach in the spring of 2023. The award comes after Morris and his team finished the regular season 26-7 and as 19th District Runner Up. Tonight, the volleyball team takes on Taylor County High School in the first round of the regional tournament held at Elizabethtown High School.
